Hintergrund

Start: as of now

Due to more stringent requirements in respect of precision of material characterization in Aerospace as well as Automotive industries, it has become necessary for material testing laboratories to obtain an accreditation according to NADCAP AC7122 (National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program). The laboratories are required to fulfil different standards given by the NADCAP authorities. One of these standards defines the alignment of a testing system for the laboratory to be able to i.e. precisely conduct tensile testing without pulling the specimen in a slanted direction. The possibility to measure the level of misalignment is of great importance, in order to be able to guarantee a uniaxial stress-state in a tensile or compressive specimen.

Problemstellung

For standard tensile test specimens according to DIN EN ISO 527-4/5, a measurement system is to be developed which can measure the misalignment of the test fixture. This system has to be able to, robustly and precisely, measure the misalignment of the system according to ASTM E1012 – 14 „Standard Practice for Verification of Testing Frame and Specimen Alignment Under Tensile and Compressive Axial Force Application“. The measurement system is to consist of following components: standardized specimen, Strain-measurement system, signal conditioner and measurement software. The software is to be developed in LabView (Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Engineering Workbench).
