Successful measurement campaign on the WINSENT test field completed

February 7, 2023

An extensive lidar comparison measurement campaign was completed at the WindForS research test site WINSENT at the end of January 2023. Four different lidar systems were operated in parallel and synchronously to a 100m high wind measurement mast. The Chair of Wind Energy (SWE) at the University of Stuttgart and the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Systems (IEE) are involved in the measurement campaign.

In addition to various commercial wind lidar systems (Windcube V2, ZephIR 300, StreamLine XR), the SWE research lidar scanner was also used. The aim of this measurement campaign, which was carried out within the framework of the BMWK-funded LoTar research project, was to better understand how the lidar error occurs in complex terrain. In the further course of the research project, methods for correcting the lidar error for wind speed and turbulence intensity are to be developed from this.
