KiteFlug Module 1

Building a demonstrator kite system for Airborne Wind Energy

Content

The German company OCEANERGY AG is developing a concept to produce hydrogen or synthetic CO2-neutral e-fuels from kite-powered ships. These KITE GAS/FUEL SHIPS would use reliable mid-ocean winds to produce affordable hydrogen and e-fuels. In 2019 the University of Stuttgart initiated the Kiteflug Modul 1 project to build a demonstrator kite system. This system was to have similar characteristics to that needed for a KITE GAS/FUEL SHIP, but would be limited in size to allow low-risk pilot training, safe experiments, and rapid testing of the kite and associated technologies.
